What Mesh Count Should I Use for Screen Printing?

Mesh Counts 24/25, 38/40, 60/61 & 85/86:

For silk screen mesh below 110 are primarily used for specialty prints using glitter and shimmer inks. You need a larger mesh opening so the flakes in the ink can get through and onto your tshirt. When your glitter has larger flakes, try using a very low mesh count (24/25, 38/40 or 60/61). Your 85/86 is great for shimmers or inks with smaller glitter particles. This mesh count is also good for printing foil adhesive.

Mesh Count 110

The 110 mesh count isĀ the most common in the industry. ItĀ lays down a fairly thick layer of ink that is great for block text letters and larger spot color designs. Use it as an underbase for multi-color work and you will only have to do one print stroke to help speed up production.

Mesh Count 125

125 mesh count isĀ another popular mesh sizes in screen printing.Ā This mesh choice is great for printing white ink and color inksĀ with aĀ thicker viscosity.

Mesh Count 156/160

156/160 mesh is great for general purpose textile printing with basic to semi-fine detail. They will hold a little finer detail than 110 mesh and also work well with thinner inks.

Mesh Count 196/200

The mesh count 196/200Ā is great forĀ detailed screen printing with a thinner layer of inkĀ compared to 156/160 mesh count.Ā Printers that want a softer-hand feel withĀ plastisol inkĀ can use this mesh count. Be mindful that as you use a higher mesh count, the opacity decreases.

Mesh Count 230

230 mesh screens are great for super fine lines, text and half tones.Ā This high 230 mesh can hold halftones well while letting more ink through than a 305 mesh could.

Mesh Count 280

A 280 mesh screen should be used for thinner inks and where a small ink deposit is necessary. Use a 280 mesh for halftones but where you need a larger ink deposit compared to a 305 screen.

Mesh Count 305

Use 305 mesh screens for the finest of detail, and small halftones, along with four color and simulated process prints. Precise halftone dots need very high mesh counts in order to hold and expose properly. Otherwise, you will not have threadsĀ per inch to hold the halftones and the lines might become saw-toothedĀ or jagged.
